I recently had the super cool opportunity to work on a few Star Wars cards for the upcoming card game by Fantasy Flight Games (you can see a preview here featuring the Admiral himself!). Being asked to illustrate some well known characters from one of my favorite IPs was awesome, but having to watch the 'ITS A TRAP' scene repeatedly can wear on you a little.

I imagined a mech pilot to be marooned on this planet long enough to fashion a life support unit from his own robot. Other people have come up with their own interpretations though which are always interesting to hear :)

Here are some character designs I did for CthulhuTech about a year ago that are finally getting released. The monsters are actually a sort of organic mech body armor called a Tager. It was a fun challenge trying to make it seem like a human could fit inside them. These are the upgraded versions of some Tagers that the very talented Trevor Claxton designed. Needless to say, it was a tough act to follow, but very fun.

The Dark Sun universe is great, it was definitely one of my favorite projects ever! Go pick up your copy at Barnes and Noble or wherever fine creature compendiums are sold.

The Windlasher is another monster card I did for Talisman: Highlands. He's a giant evil vulture who can create powerful storms with his wings. Not really something you want to run into when you're hanging off the edge of a cliff.

Saw How to Train Your Dragon last weekend (great flick btw) and got pretty inspired. It's easy to forget how fun it is to just sit back and render the hell out of a goofy looking dragon. I'm still not sure where I want this piece to go or what it will look like painted up though.

This was one of those assignments that you never think you'll get to do...it's weird when you sit down to work and your assignment is to paint a badass space bounty hunter from your favorite movies.

I've been using some thin horizontal lines to try and get that old printed quality in it. An interesting experiment, but I'm not sure how successful the results are.

Wowsers it's been a lil' while since I've given an update. I got hired in May at n-Space in Orlando, so I've been doing some concept work there on a couple DS games- it's a lot of fun. I get to draw things that I pretty much draw for fun. It's a trip seeing someone model your drawings, and actually seeing it in-game.

Anyways, these are mostly some fun quickie sketches I've been working on when I get home, I'm trying to give myself some more personal projects to work on. (Continuing my thesis, I guess). I'm planning on taking these (very slowly and lazily) to finishes (eventually).

Well, here it finally is, my senior thesis completed! The Senior Illustration Show last Friday was awesome, I had a lot of fun talking to everyone and getting to see all of my classmate's work. Pretty kickass stuff all around.

Environment I (sorta almost) finished today, I think this is my favorite color palette. It's in the same area as the Forest God piece. My idea for this place is a swampy, gooey unnatural mossy creek. I entered the Last Man Standing competition over at conceptart.org, ( www.lastmanart.com ) and since the deadline is this Saturday I figure I can go ahead and post my entry up. I just have a lil' bit of noodling on it that I've been putting off, like the statue in the background. Oh yeah, the theme is 'Underneath It All'. I'm thinking that people will be going with more serious topics and not something as goofy as this...

My thesis is going to involve a world of my creation and the creatures, people, and locations that make it up. I guess this is a preview of some of the creatures and environments, they're mostly work in progresses.

So this is my entry for the 100th Creature of the Week activity (COW) over at conceptart.org. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showth ... p?t=106442 . Basically they had 30 categories (some of them really cheesy), you pick 10 of them and do 10 images in each category, and the contest lasted a month. It was a lot of fun/work/fun work, and it's a relief to be done to tell you the truth.

N-Space Internship

So this summer I interned at N-Space, a game developer in Orlando. I worked on some fun stuff including 2 unannounced Wii titles, as well as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the DS (!!!). It was an awesome super good learning experience, and I met some really cool people there too. Since most of the stuff I did was under NDA, they were kind enough to give me a couple of assignments that I'd be able to leave with and put in my portfolio. There was a character design /ortho one, and an environment design, as well as a sort of blueprint for how my hill camo castle fortress would unfold etc. Yep.

Me and some friends got together and decided to re-design the story of Peter Pan in 24 hours.

Rough backstory to my version:

In the days since Wendy has left the island, Never Never Land has become a more brutal place. Pan has cut off Captain Hook's hook. In retaliation, Hook launched a campaign against the Lost Boys, eventually capturing and slaying the whole tribe. With no home, Pan has taken refuge with the Indian tribe, giving him an even more feral attitude. Being the trickster that he is, he now fights with Hook's severed 'hand'. Hook has covered up his amputated hand with an armored cloak, and now wields nets at all times in preparation for an attack from the flying Peter Pan.
